WORDS BY JAYLEN

A Free Bird Leaps

Song of the soul

Falls from the roots of my hair

Like the jaybird, ruffled and old

Singing hidden in my name, light as air

It’s wings are freer than i’ll ever be

I lay afraid of things unknown, but long for still

But long for still…

Caged and lonely but never alone

hostage in my own skin

I hear waves, beneath me a cramped ship groans

This is the song of my kin

The jaybird flies, the jaybird cries

But never will it die, never will it die

Free to leap, it takes to the sky

From behind my bars, I follow with weary eyes

It opens its beak, my mouth stretches round and

My mother’s lullaby rips through, the clouds shatter and the cage rattles

Oh Free bird

Carry my tone

Oh free bird

On your wings, show me the places

Of things unknown

but longed for still

But longed for still….
